I’m an Oxymoron

I’m an oxymoron.

As we tried to leave the house this morning, my daughter told me she was “nearly done” [with her hair].

Actually, we were trying to get out to the school “Fun Run“. And as much as I like to promote physical health and well-being, these are two words that I question should ever be found together!

Later, I sat down to try and list all the oxymorons that I have heard this week…

act natural, only choice, alone together, bad luck, definite possibility, awfully good, exact estimate, student teacher, old news, original copy, virtual reality, poor health, found missing, deafening silence, simply impossible, genuine imitation, big baby, recent history, cruel kindness, online privacy, clearly misunderstood, unbiased opinion, small crowd, controlled chaos, new classic, passive-aggressive, minor miracle, seriously funny, friendly fire, definitely maybe, business ethics, new tradition, same difference.

Then, as we were starting the car, I noted that the dashboard was flashing the following message: “Press brake to start“.

It turns out that this ridiculous oxymoron, something I have not noticed before, was the best advice I could have wished for to kick off my weekend!

In order to be able to go, you sometimes need to stop.
